Benvenuti a Ginosa, Puglia, città dall’antica storia greca, romana e normanna, al confine tra la Puglia e la Basilicata. 
Città rupestre, abbracciata dalla pietra della sua gravina, città presepe che col tempo diventerà miscuglio di etnìe, di culture, di religione.
Le sue suggestive architetture hanno ispirato pittori, poeti, scrittori, registi come Pier Paolo Pasolini che proprio a Ginosa ha girato il “Vangelo secondo Matteo”.
Le vie. le contrade, le grotte, sono emozionanti incontri con i valori della storia e dell’immaginazione.
Pronti? Partiamo per un’avventura attraverso queste affascinanti cicatrici geologiche delle gravine, i canyon più grandi d’Europa.
DA VEDERE
Via Matrice, strada simbolo della città.
Costeggiando la spettacolare vista delle gravine, scoprirete chiese rupestri, antichi forni, ipogei, cisterne, giardini pensili, laboratori, molini, frantoi, abbeveratoi e case scavate nella roccia, disposte su cinque piani.
In un’ indimentaicabile passeggiata, che potrete fare a piedi o in bici, scoprirete tanti antichi villaggi di pietra disseminati tra importanti luoghi di culto, come la rinascimentale Chiesa Madre della Madonna del SS Rosario, rivolta verso la ciità , quasi in segno di protezione,
il Castello Normanno, datato 1080 e collegato al paese da uno scenografico ponte e perfino un Anfiteatro all’aperto che fronteggia uno sfondo di grotte e case arroccate, suggestivo scenario dell’annuale evento teatrale dedicato alla Passione di Cristo.
Cuore della città è la frequentatissima Piazza dell’Orologio, ideale punto di incontro per un aperitivo gourmet servito con ghiotti stuzzichini, delizie salate e le squisite focaccine pugliesi, e si…perchè quando i ginosini si mettono ai fornelli… qualità, gusto e abbondanza sono le parole d’ordine
Sempre in Piazza, se vi vorrete documentare sulla storia della città, visitate l’edificio storico che ospita la Community Library recentemente inaugurata con laboratori, sale lettura, aree multimediali, spazi espositivi e molto altro.
DA VEDERE
Chiesa rupestre Mater Domini complesso di due chiese sovrapposte, quella di costruzione più recente al di sopra di quella più antica scavata nella roccia. 
Una scalinata, conduce alla cripta dal soffitto sbozzato a capanna, dove in una nicchia toviamo un dipinto di San Nicola davvero inedito, singolarmente posto in orizzontale.
L’ ULIVO PENSANTE
Dedicate una tappa d’obbligo a questa pianta secolare il cui tronco richiama il viso di un vecchio piuttosto accigliato, dall’espressione pensierosa. Dicono che porti buono e scacci via i cattivi pensieri… beh io l’ho toccato e, naturalmente… selfie!
Ginosa e la vicina Laterza vivono momenti suggestivi in occasione delle processioni in onore della Madonna del Rosario seguite da rappresentanti del clero, da fedeli, da bande musicali e da tutta la città in festa, illuminata da suggestive luminarie.
Si svolgono a più riprese, in Maggio e in Ottobre. Gli allegri cortei si snodano non solo per le vie della città ma anche in mare, dove una rustica barca di pescatori ospita la statua della Madonna della Marina che, seguendo un rito propiziatorio, naviga lungo tutta la costa, seguita da una miriade di imbarcazioni, canti e musiche.
Merita una visita il Museo Civico del Territorio Santa Parasceve, che custodisce un notevole patrimonio archeologico e ospita molti reperti, come crateri apuli, epichysis, kyathon fino alle maioliche di fabbrica laertina e alle ceramiche acroame.
IL MARE DI GINOSA
Da anni riconosciuto “Bandiera Blu” dalla FEE (Foundation of Environmental Education) e premiato con le “Tre Vele Blu” di Legambiente, il mare limpido con le sue ampie spiagge sabbiose è sinonimo non solo di acqua cristallina, ma anche di relax, svago, vacanze e piacevoli weekend.
Siete appassionati di snorkelin?
Vi aspetta un vero spettacolo! Sui colorati fondali scoprirete vaste praterie di poseidonia, alghe coralline, anemoni e spugne che fanno da sfondo alle danze sottomarine di dentici, saraghi, pesci pettine, tonni e tartarughe marine.
Non mancano le sorprese: a pochi passi dalla costa, si erge l’antica Torre Mattoni costruita nel XVI secolo per difendere la costa dalle incursioni turche provenienti dal mare. 
E’ situata ad Est dell’oasi naturale del Lago Salinella, all’interno dell’area Stornara, un vero e proprio paradiso naturale, rifugio di numerose e rare specie di uccelli migratori.
DOVE MANGIARE
Vito Ribecco, Macelleria Brace
Una tradizione locale: la bottega del macellaio nascondo all’ interno un vero ristorante dove vengono serviti “al fornello” le carni che avete scelto voi!
Nel ricco menu troverete il tipico capocollo, eccellenze casearie come il caciocavallo e tanti piatti nostrani: dalla robusta zuppa di fagioli con costine di maiale, guanciale, salsiccia vitello e paprika al mio adorato agnello alla callaredda, un tradizionale piatto di Pasquetta, rigorosamente cucinato in un pentolino di creta e arricchito da patate cicoria e finocchietto 
Non possono mancare le tipiche braciole servito con patate al forno e il marro, un robusto mix di polmone, fegato, corratella, animelle cucinato in budella di intestino.
Il praedio della Reale
Territorialità e stagionalità, sperimentare la ruralità legata al territorio: cavolfiori, cime di rapa e finocchi d’inverno, angurie, meloni, pomodori e zucche d’estate, tutto in agricoltura biologica.
Il ristorante aderisce al progetto Eat Slow Be Happy di Slow Food, non a caso gli ortaggi arrivano dall’orto, la carne da un fornitore distante qualche decina di metri. mentre il pesce lo assicura il vicino Mar Ionio,
«È un mare profondo, i pesci non sono sempre gli stessi e quindi la paranza può tirare su di tutto, dal polpo alla seppia, fino alle mazzancolle» mi racconta Chef Domenico Castria, che ama definirsi ” un contadino moderno” e che guida l’azienda agricola di famiglia: .
Vi aspetta un tipico menu ginosino: salumi e formaggi del territorio, accompagnati da crostini alla barbabietola e stracciatella, la tradionale tiella di riso, patate e cozze (spero di aver elencato gli ingredienti in ordine giusto, altrimenti gli chef locali si arrabbiano…)
In tavola arrivano agnello callareddu con punte di cicorella, finocchio e verdure aromatiche, gli irresistibili lampascioni e le mie adorate “zucchine alla poverella” con mentuccia, pomodorini e peperoni arrosto. Una squisitezza!
Le sorprese continuano in giardino dove le fronde dei gelsi abbondano di questa deliziose bacche che, quando è la stagione, potete cogliere direttamente dai rami per godervi la loro dolcezza paradisiaca….
Museo MuPa
Eduardo De Filippo, Federci Fellini, Carla Fracci, Ennio Morricone. Dante e Caravaggio, sei icone italiane che ci guidano negli spazi che raccontano l’arte in tutte le sue sfaccettature.
Il palazzo ospita eventi culturali, tour virtuali, esperienze VR e interessanti mostre d’arte di rinomati artisi del terrirtorio.
E’ di scena la mostra MONDI FANTASTICI della pittrice Ilaria del Monte, le cui opere sono un misto di magiche atmosfere e di un surrealismo tutto al femminile.
DOVE DORMIRE
Albergo diffuso “Il Casale” vista mozzafiato sulle gravine e la parte antica del borgo. Accoglienza cortesissima. “Acqua di Ginosa”appositamente distallata per gli ospiti e uno spray per profunare i vostri letti e le vostre notti 
Camere arredate con gusto e rispetto delle tradizioni locali. Ogni camera è contraddistinta dal nome di un frutto. 
Ho scelto la “melograno” con un antico camino, oggetti vintage, meravigliosi tendaggi ricamati a mano dalla proprietaria e un terrazzino che si affaccia sulla vista mozzafiato delle gravine.
Il breakfast è davvero un incanto: frutta fresca, formaggi del posto. dolci e marmellate fatte in casa, la focaccia appena sfornata e il popolare calzone pugliese ripieno di formaggio, prosciutto e pomodoro, il tutto mentre vi affacciate sulla spettacolare vista delle gravina. Che inizio di giornata!
Ginosa: un nome, un mondo, una fiaba degna di apparire nella lista dei vostri prossimi weekend.

Welcome to Ginosa, Apulia, Italy, a city with ancient Greek, Roman and Norman history, on the border between Puglia and Basilicata. Rock city, embraced by the stone of its ravine, a nativity scene city that over time will become a mixture of ethnic groups, cultures and religions.
Its evocative architecture has inspired painters, poets, writers and directors such as Pier Paolo Pasolini who filmed the “Gospel according to Matthew” in Ginosa.
The ways. the districts, the caves, are exciting encounters with the values of history and imagination.
Ready? Let’s set off on an adventure through these fascinating geological scars of the ravines, the largest canyons in Europe.
TO SEE
Via Matrice, the symbolic street of the city.
Along the spectacular view of the ravines, you will discover rock churches, ancient ovens, hypogea, cisterns, hanging gardens, laboratories, mills, oil mills, troughs and houses carved into the rock, arranged on five floors.
In an unforgettable walk, which you can do on foot or by bike, you will discover many ancient stone villages scattered among important places of worship, such as the Renaissance Mother Church of the Madonna del SS Rosario, facing the city, almost as a sign of protection, the Norman Castle, dated 1080 and connected to the town by a scenic bridge and even an open-air amphitheater facing a backdrop of caves and perched houses, an evocative setting for the annual theatrical event dedicated to the Passion of Christ. The heart of the city is the very busy Piazza dell’Orologio, an ideal meeting point for a gourmet aperitif served with delicious appetizers, savory delicacies and exquisite Apulian focaccias, and yes… because when the people of Ginosa get to cook… quality, taste and abundance are the watchwords
Also in the Square, if you want to find out about the history of the city, visit the historic building which houses the recently inaugurated Community Library with laboratories, reading rooms, multimedia areas, exhibition spaces and much more.
TO BE SEEN
Mater Domini rock church complex of two overlapping churches, the more recently built one above the older one carved into the rock. A staircase leads to the crypt with a rough-hewn gabled ceiling, where in a niche we find a truly unpublished painting of Saint Nicholas, singularly placed horizontally.
THE THINKING OLIVE TREE
Dedicate an obligatory stop to this centuries-old plant whose trunk recalls the face of a rather frowning old man with a thoughtful expression. They say it brings goodness and chases away bad thoughts… well I touched it and of course… lots of selfies!
Ginosa and nearby Laterza experience suggestive moments during the processions in honor of the Madonna del Rosario followed by representatives of the clergy, faithful, musical bands and the whole city celebrating, illuminated by suggestive lights.
They take place on several occasions, in May and October. The cheerful processions wind not only through the streets of the city but also in the sea, where a rustic fishermen’s boat hosts the statue of the Madonna della Marina which, following a propitiatory rite, sails along the entire coast, followed by a myriad of boats, songs and music.
The Civic Museum of the Santa Parasceve Territory is worth a visit, which houses a notable archaeological heritage and houses many finds, such as Apulian craters, epichysis, kyathon up to the Laertina majolica and Acroame ceramics.
THE SEA OF GINOSA
For years recognized as a “Blue Flag” by the FEE (Foundation of Environmental Education) and awarded with the “Three Blue Sails” of Legambiente, the clear sea with its wide sandy beaches is synonymous not only with crystal clear water, but also with relaxation, leisure , holidays and pleasant weekends.
Are you a snorkelling addicted?
A real show awaits you! On the colorful seabed you will discover vast meadows of poseidonia, coral algae, anemones and sponges which form the backdrop to the underwater dances of snapper, sea bream, comb fish, tuna and sea turtles.
There is no shortage of surprises: a few steps from the coast, stands the ancient Torre Mattoni built in the 16th century to defend the coast from Turkish incursions coming from the sea. It is located to the east of the natural oasis of Lake Salinella, within the Stornara area, a true natural paradise, a refuge for numerous and rare species of migratory birds.
WHERE TO EAT
Vito Ribecco, Brace Butcher’s shop
A local tradition: the butcher’s shop hides inside a real restaurant where the meats you have chosen are served “al fornello”!
In the rich menu you will find the typical capocollo, dairy excellences such as caciocavallo and many local dishes: from the robust bean soup with pork ribs, bacon, veal sausage and paprika to my beloved lamb alla callaredda, a traditional Easter Monday dish, rigorously cooked in a clay pot enriched with potatoes, chicory and fennel. The typical chops served with baked potatoes and marro cannot be missing, a robust mix of lung, liver, corratella, sweetbreads cooked in intestine casings.
The Praedio della Reale
Territoriality and seasonality, experiencing the rurality linked to the territory: cauliflowers, turnip greens and fennel in winter, watermelons, melons, tomatoes and pumpkins in summer, all organically grown.
The restaurant adheres to Slow Food’s Eat Slow Be Happy project, it is no coincidence that the vegetables come from the garden, the meat from a supplier a few dozen meters away. while the nearby Ionian Sea ensures great fish,
«It is a deep sea, the fish are not always the same and therefore the fishing vessel can catch everything, from octopus to cuttlefish, up to prawns» Says Chef Domenico Castria who likes to define himself as “a modern farmer” and who leads the family farm: .

A typical menu awaits you: local cured meats and cheeses, accompanied by beetroot and stracciatella crostini, the traditional tiella of rice, potatoes and mussels (I hope I have listed the ingredients in the right order, otherwise the local chefs will get angry… ) On the table comes callareddu lamb with chicory tips, fennel and aromatic vegetables, the irresistible lampascioni and my beloved “poverella courgettes” with mint, cherry tomatoes and roasted peppers. A delicacy!
The surprises continue in the garden where the mulberry tree branches abound with these delicious berries which, when in season, you can pick directly from the branches to enjoy their heavenly sweetness…
MuPa Museum
Eduardo De Filippo, Federci Fellini, Carla Fracci, Ennio Morricone. Dante and Caravaggio, six Italian icons who guide us in the spaces that tell art in all its facets.
The palace hosts cultural events, virtual tours, VR experiences and interesting art exhibitions by renowned local artists. The exhibition FANTASTIC WORLDS by the painter Ilaria del Monte is on display, whose works are a mixture of magical atmospheres and surrealism all feminine.

WHERE TO SLEEP
Albergo Diffuso “Il Casale” breathtaking view of the ravines and the ancient part of the village. Very kind welcome. “Acqua di Ginosa” specially installed for guests and a spray to perfume your beds and your nights. Rooms furnished with taste and respect for local traditions. Each room is characterized by the name of a fruit. I chose the “melograno” with an ancient fireplace, vintage objects, wonderful curtains hand-embroidered by the owner and a small terrace overlooking the breathtaking view of the ravines.
Breakfast is truly enchanting: fresh fruit, local cheeses. homemade desserts and jams, freshly baked focaccia and the popular Apulian calzone filled with cheese, ham and tomato, all while overlooking the spectacular view of the gravina. What a start to the day!
Ginosa: a name, a world, a fairy tale worthy of appearing on your next weekend list.
