Romania, Delta del Danubio: benvenuti negli incantevoli labirinti dei canali e dei famosi laghi Bogdaproste, Amiaza, Cazanel, Trei Iezere. Ligheanca, Baclanesti e Furtuna. le cui forme sinuose si dice siano le impronte del Dragone sconfitto da San Giorgio.
In un weekend davvero unico scoprirete il maestoso Delta, la sua flora, la fauna e gli innumerevoli specie di uccelli che animano il cielo e le sponde del fiume.
A Tulcea vi aspetta l’Hotel galleggiante IBIS, un grande “boat-hotel” 4 stelle.
Comodo e accogliente, può ospitare fino a 20 persone. Tutte le cabine sono dotate di bagno privato con doccia, due letti singoli e due finestre schermate che possono essere aperte. Squisiti piatti della tradizione, servizio perfetto e una sorprendente recezione wifi.

Scoprirete eleganti aironi, cormorani e usignoli, marangonI minore, merAvigliosi cigni che spiccano il volo, colonie di pellicani e un’infinità di cuculi, visto che siamo nell’area più popolata da cuculi nel mondo. Tutto ciò lungo un fiume costeggiato da una mutevole flora e salici piangenti dalle foglie argentate che vivono sott’acqua anche per mesi.
Questo tour è adatto sia agli appassionati di birdwatching che agli appassionati di fauna selvatica poiché esplora le parti principali della Riserva della Biosfera del Delta del Danubio alla ricerca di uccelli, mammiferi e piante.
Si parte!
Ci dirigiamo verso Mile 36, l’entrata principale per il Delta del Danubio, niente di più suggestivo che viverlo in barca con la possibilità di osservare e fotografare infinite specie di uccelli presenti (pellicano e pellicano riccio, ibis, aquila dalla coda bianca ecc ecc),
Gli appassionati di pesca potranno trovare lucci e persici che verranno poi cucinati con tradizionale maestria dallo chef al timone (è proprio il casio di dirlo) della cucina galleggiante che serve piatti della tradizione.
Ho trascorso giornate davvero uniche, in un paesaggio indimenticabile anche grazie alla verve di Charlie Ottley, noto personaggio televisivo, creatore della serie “Flavours from Romania” e alla competenza di Daniel Petrescu, naturalista fotografo titolare dell’agenzia Ibis. Daniel sa assistere e guidare con professionalità, competenza, gentilezza grazie a 25 anni di esperienza nell’organizzazione di vacanze naturalistiche e visite guidate di birdwatching che offrono la possibilità di osservare rare specie di uccelli, dalle montagne al Mar Nero fino al delta del Danubio.
LA CUCINA DEL DANUBIO
Le danze gourmet si aprono con un bridisi di benvenuto e sfiziosità gastronomiche che provengono non stop dalla ben attrezzata cucina specializzata in piatti tipici della tradizione, Sulla barca vene servita una cucina sana, vera, tradizionale e saporita dove, ovviamente, imperano i pesci di fiume, le carpe, il luccio, il lucioperca,
Tra i piatti più tradizionali troviamo il salmone del Danubio che viaggia dal Mar Nero fino a oltre Vienna, percorrendo distanze di circa 2 000 chilometri. Le sue uova, servite come caviale bianco, sono il perfetto condimento per una sana fetta di pane arrosito e imburrato, magri accompagnato da un buon Pinot Nero Chateau Burgozone, un rosè dai sentori di fragola.
Il menu, oltre a gustosi tagli di carne, offre zuppe di pesce e verdure (le mie preferite) ammorbidite, come vuole la tradizione, da formaggio acido .
Una crociera lungo il Danubio riserva molte sorprese: dall”esplorazione del Canale Mila 36, Sireasa, Sontea, Lac Nebunu, Lac Baclanesti, Canal 22 e Gorgova, all’intenso profumo della pianta vitis vinifera silvestris, dalle isole galleggianti chiamate “plauri” e decine di ettari di acqua ricoperti con ninfee
E cosa dire dell’emozione di viaggiare su una carrozza tirata da cavalli per raggiungere la leggendaria Foresta Letia e il suo tradizionale villaggio, dove ci accoglie una coloratissima casa di campagna per un lunch tipico della cucina rumena a base di chorba de pesce e dolcetti gogosh

La mia mega suite è piena di ricordi ,stampe antiche, un manichino fiorito, una doccia -gazebo, uno scoppiettante camino e una vasca jacuzzi a cui è impossibile dire di no….
Il ristorante serve una cucina tradizionale rumena che utilizza i prodotti del loro splendido orto. Nel menu spiccano zuppe di verdura, contorni vegetariani, carne e cacciaciagione, dolci tipici della Transilvania. La cantina offre una notevole scelta di eccellenti vini del territorio.
Volevo sottolineare che questa esperienza è stata per me (e presumo sarà anche per voi) la piacevole scoperta della gente rumena, seria, affabile e accogliente, al contrario di quanto purtroppo riscontriamo nei rumeni che migrano in Italia e in tutto il resto dell’Europa e del mondo. I “Rumeni in Romania” sono tristemente al corrente di questa altra faccia della medaglia e biasimano i loro connazionali espatriati che, spesso costretti dalla mancanza di lavoro, si rivelano all’estero come individui inaffidabili e pericolosi .
I “gypsy” cioè gli zingari rumeni si dividono in effetti in due categorie: I “gypsy village”: persone tranquille, seri lavoratori coinvolti nel lavoro agricolo stagionale, nel commercio di automobili e nell’abbattimento di alberi. Alcuni sono impiegati come accademici, insegnanti e dipendenti pubblici, tutti seguono le regole e le leggi e evitano di manifestarsi in maniere violenti.
Purtroppo a loro si contrappongono i “gipsy nomad” protagonisti di una massiccia emigrazione dalla Romania verso l’Italia per motivi essenzialmente geopolitici, economici e culturali. Alcuni trovano occupazione, ma molti sopravvivono con espedienti illegali che vanno dal furto al commercio di droga alla violenza.
Nel mio piccolo, spero che questo articolo aiuti a cambiare opinione sulla gente rumena e che invogli ad andare a verificare di persona con un prossimo viaggio in Romania, magari proprio trascorrendo un weekend sul Danubio, come ho fatto io.
Oltre che a una flora e una fauna sorprendentemente meravigliosa, scoprirete un popolo dal cuore grande e dallo spirito sereno.

We head towards Mile 36, the main entrance to the Danube Delta, nothing more suggestive than experiencing it by boat with the possibility of observing and photographing infinite species of birds present (pelican and curly pelican, ibis, white-tailed eagle etc etc ), Fishing enthusiasts will be able to find pike and perch which will then be cooked with traditional skill by the chef at the helm (it’s worth saying) of the floating kitchen which serves traditional dishes.
I spent truly unique days, in an unforgettable landscape also thanks to the verve of Charlie Ottley, well-known television personality, creator of the “Flavours from Romania” series and the expertise of Daniel Petrescu, naturalist photographer and owner of the Ibis agency. Daniel knows how to assist and guide with professionalism, competence, kindness thanks to 25 years of experience in organizing nature holidays and guided birdwatching tours which offer the possibility of observing rare species of birds, from the mountains to the Black Sea to the Danube Delta.

DANUBE CUISINE
The gourmet dances open with a welcome toast and gastronomic delicacies that come non-stop from the well-equipped kitchen specializing in typical traditional dishes. On the boat, healthy, real, traditional and tasty cuisine is served where, obviously, river fish reign supreme , carp, pike, zander. Among the most traditional dishes we find Danube salmon which travels from the Black Sea to beyond Vienna, covering distances of around 2,000 kilometres. Its eggs, served as white caviar, are the perfect condiment for a healthy slice of roasted and buttered bread, lean, accompanied by a good Chateau Burgozone Pinot Noir, a rosé with hints of strawberry.
The menu, in addition to tasty cuts of meat, offers fish and vegetable soups (my favorites) softened, as tradition dictates, with acid cheese.
A cruise along the Danube reserves many surprises: from the exploration of Canal Mila 36, Sireasa, Sontea, Lac Nebunu, Lac Baclanesti, Canal 22 and Gorgova, to the intense scent of the vitis vinifera silvestris plant, from the floating islands called “plauri” and dozens of hectares of water covered with water lilies
And what can we say about the thrill of traveling on a horse-drawn carriage to reach the legendary Letia Forest and its traditional village, where a colorful country house welcomes us for a typical lunch of Romanian cuisine based on chorba de fish and gogosh sweets

I wanted to underline that this experience was for me (and I presume it will be for you too) the pleasant discovery of Romanian people, serious, affable and welcoming, unlike what we unfortunately find in Romanians who migrate to Italy and throughout the rest of Europe and of the world. The “Romanians in Romania” are sadly aware of this other side of the coin and blame their expatriate compatriots who, often forced by lack of work, reveal themselves abroad as unreliable and dangerous individuals.
The “gypsies”, i.e. the Romanian gypsies, are actually divided into two categories: The “gypsy villages”: quiet people, serious workers involved in seasonal agricultural work, in the car trade and in felling trees. Some are employed as academics, teachers and public employees, all of them follow the rules and laws and avoid expressing themselves in violent ways. Unfortunately they are opposed by the “gypsy nomads” who are calling for massive emigration from Romania to Italy for essentially geopolitical, economic and cultural. Some find employment, but many survive through illegal means ranging from theft to drug dealing to violence.
In my own small way, I hope that this article helps to change your opinion on Romanian people and that it encourages you to go and check it out for yourself with a next trip to Romania, perhaps spending a weekend on the Danube, like I did.
In addition to surprisingly wonderful flora and fauna, you will discover a people with big hearts and a serene spirit.
