If the weather allows, you can add a relaxing stop at the Blue Lagoon. Yes, it’s touristy—but soaking in warm, milky water at 38°C while the wind howls outside is the best possible welcome.
The Secret Lagoon is an alternative hot spring that feels more authentic. If you’re after something more local and less crowded, try the Sky Lagoon in Reykjavík: its oceanfront infinity pool will make you feel like a luxury Viking

Harpa Concert Hall: Un capolavoro di vetro che riflette la luce del porto. Entra anche solo per scattare foto ai giochi geometrici delle finestre.
Museo Perlan: Ospita”Wonders of Iceland” una suggestiva mostra sulle grotte di ghiaccio. La terrazza panoramica offre una vista a 360 gradi, mentre all’interno del sono stati ricreati la forma, i suoni e persino la temperatura di una spettacolare grotta di ghiaccio.
Harpa Concert Hall: A glass masterpiece that reflects the light of the harbor. Step inside—even just to snap photos of the geometric patterns created by its windows.
Perlan Museum: Home to Wonders of Iceland, an immersive exhibition dedicated to ice caves. The panoramic terrace offers 360-degree views, while inside you can experience the shape, sounds, and even the temperature of a spectacular recreated ice cave.
Sun Voyager: Una scultura in acciaio che sembra lo scheletro di una nave vichinga. Il selfie qui è d’obbligo, meglio se al tramonto.
Hallgrímskirkja: È la chiesa che sembra un razzo pronto a decollare. Sali sulla torre per la vista più iconica sulle casette colorate della città.
Sun Voyager: A steel sculpture resembling the skeleton of a Viking ship. A selfie here is a must—especially at sunset.
Hallgrímskirkja: The church that looks like a rocket ready for takeoff. Head up to the tower for the city’s most iconic view of Reykjavík’s colorful houses.

I piatti tipici da provare
Trionfano le zuppe, spesso servite in una pagnotta: dalla cremosa zuppa di aragosta alla Kjötsúpa, alla zuppa di funghi selvatici, alla meravigliosa zuppa d’agnello.
Per un appetito (e un palato) robusto, segnalo Hákarl, squalo fermentato dal gusto decisamente intenso, meglio accompagnarlo con un bicchierino di Brennivín, l’acquavite locale.

Must-try local dishes
Soups reign supreme, often served in a bread bowl—from creamy lobster soup to Kjötsúpa, wild mushroom soup, and the wonderful lamb soup.
For the truly adventurous (and strong-palated), there’s Hákarl: fermented shark with a notoriously intense flavor. Best paired with a shot of Brennivín, the local spirit.
Skyr (non chiamarlo yogurt, gli islandesi ci tengono) un formaggio spesso servito con frutti di bosco, Plokkfiskur, stufato di merluzzo e patate, Pylsur l’hot dog islandese con carne di agnello, il pasto più economico e iconico dell’isola. Non mancano i popolari fish and chips con merluzzo o halibut freschissimi.
Skyr (don’t call it yogurt—Islanders really care about that): a fresh cheese often served with berries. Plokkfiskur, a comforting stew of cod and potatoes. Pylsur, the iconic Icelandic hot dog made with lamb—the island’s most affordable and beloved meal. And of course, you’ll find excellent fish and chips, made with ultra-fresh cod or halibut.

Ristorante a conduzione familiare, celebre per l’uso di prodotti locali e l’attenzione alle erbe selvatiche islandesi. Ho iniziato con la zuppa di funghi selvatici e la cremosa zuppa di crostacei.

A family-run restaurant, renowned for its use of local ingredients and its focus on Icelandic wild herbs. I started with wild mushroom soup and a rich, creamy shellfish soup.
Tra i secondi consiglio il pesce: salmone marinato, salmerino alpino in padella, sogliola al limone, filetto di merluzzo. Se amate a carne, sperimentate la guancia di manzo a cottura lenta o la costata di agnello, tenera, cotta alla perfezione e ricca di sapore.
For main courses, I recommend the fish: marinated salmon, pan-seared Arctic char, lemon sole, or cod fillet. If you’re more of a meat lover, try the slow-cooked beef cheek or the lamb chop—tender, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor.
Grillmarkaðurinn
ottimo rapporto qualità-prezzo. Utilizza ingredienti provenienti direttamente dalle fattorie islandesi, cucinati su una speciale griglia a carbone. Il design interno, ispirato agli elementi naturali dell’Islanda (lava, muschio), crea un’atmosfera unica.

Excellent value for money. The restaurant uses ingredients sourced directly from Icelandic farms, cooked over a special charcoal grill. The interior design, inspired by Iceland’s natural elements—lava and moss—creates a truly unique atmosphere.

For a quick, informal, and more affordable meal:
Sea Baron (Sægreifinn): At the harbor, serving the city’s best lobster soup in a rustic, old-seafarer atmosphere.
Icelandic Street Food: Offers traditional dishes “just like grandma used to make.” Their shellfish soup or lamb soup served in a bread bowl is a national favorite—you’ll also find it at Svarta Kaffið.

Movida o relax ?
Non puoi dire di essere stato a Reykjavík senza un salto in una piscina termale pubblica (come la Laugardalslaug). Costa pochissimo ed è dove gli islandesi si ritrovano a spettegolare immersi nell’acqua a 40°C mentre fuori nevica. Un altro puro godimento, sarà rilassarsi in una piscina geotermica urbana, come la Sundhöllin, amata dai locali.
Nightlife or Relaxation?
You can’t say you’ve been to Reykjavík without a visit to a public hot pool, like Laugardalslaug. It’s very affordable and where locals gather to chat while soaking in 40°C water as snow falls outside. Another pure pleasure is relaxing in an urban geothermal pool, such as Sundhöllin, a favorite among locals.
Se invece siete” movidaioli” puntate sul “Rúntur”, il giro dei bar. L’atmosfera è amichevole, la birra artigianale è ottima (provate la Einstök) e non stupitevi se finirete a ballare con degli sconosciuti fino all’alba (che in estate non arriva mai, e in inverno non finisce mai!)
If you’re more of a night owl, go for the Rúntur, the classic bar crawl. The atmosphere is friendly, the craft beer is excellent (try Einstök), and don’t be surprised if you end up dancing with strangers until dawn—which in summer never really comes, and in winter seems never-ending!
La magia dell’aurora boreale, una delle principali attrazioni dell’Islanda
Se viaggiate tra settembre e aprile, potreste avvistare l’aurora boreale anche dal centro di Reykjavik semplicemente alzando gli occhi al cielo tra un pub e l’altro! Le più spettacolari appaiono nelle aree all’interno e nei dintorni della città , oppure lungo la costa, nei pressi del Parco Nazionale Þingvellir o nelle campagne circostanti.
The Magic of the Northern Lights, One of Iceland’s Top Attractions
If you’re traveling between September and April, you might even catch the Northern Lights from the center of Reykjavík—just by looking up between pub stops! The most spectacular displays appear in areas outside and around the city, along the coast, near Þingvellir National Park, or in the surrounding countryside.

It’s one of nature’s most magical phenomena, but also one of the most unpredictable. There’s no guarantee you’ll see it, but craning your neck skyward in anticipation is all part of the adventure.
Sulla app “Hello Aurora” e “My Aurora Forecast” troverete numerose proposte di tour, mentre Aurora Reykjavik è una una mostra dedicata all’aurora boreale. In alternativa vi aspetta il pluripremiato Northern Lights Show presso l’osservatorio Perlan.
On apps like Hello Aurora and My Aurora Forecast, you’ll find plenty of tour options, while Aurora Reykjavík is an exhibition dedicated to the Northern Lights. Alternatively, you can experience the award-winning Northern Lights Show at the Perlan Observatory.
Per sfruttare al massimo il weekend, è consigliabile partire il venerdì mattina e rientrare la domenica sera (oppure un giorno o due in più) Una volta atterrati all’aeroporto internazionale di Keflavík, Reykjavik dista circa 45 minuti: si può raggiungere la città con bus navetta, taxi o auto a noleggio ( che vi consiglio , qualora abbiate un paio di giorni in più per scoprire il territorio)
To make the most of a weekend, it’s best to leave Friday morning and return Sunday evening (or stay an extra day or two). Once you land at Keflavík International Airport, Reykjavík is about 45 minutes away. You can get to the city by shuttle bus, taxi, or rental car—which I recommend if you have a couple of extra days to explore the surrounding area.
